Tree Removal in Alto, TX, on the Old San Antonio Road

Alto, Texas, is a town of about 1,000 people in southern Cherokee County, at the junction of US-69, State Highways 21 and 294 and several farm roads, eleven miles south of Rusk and about twenty-five miles from our shop in Jacksonville. The name is Spanish for high, and the town sits on the divide between the Neches and Angelina rivers along what was the Old San Antonio Road. Alto is the closest town to Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, and its economy today is cattle, oil and gas, and timber, with Alto ISD serving three campuses. Timber is the key word for us. The land around Alto is working pine country, and the yard trees in town are often loblollies that were left when a lot was cleared, now eighty feet tall and shallow-rooted in sandy soil. We get to Alto in about thirty-five minutes, and we come down US-69 regularly for Rusk and Wells jobs.

Why a Jacksonville Crew Comes to Alto

Why Alto Chooses Us

On the Way to Wells

Alto sits on our southern run down US-69, so we can usually fold an Alto estimate into a day we are already south of Rusk. Same crew, same written estimate, no trip charge.

Eighty-Foot Yard Pines

Loblollies left standing when Alto lots were cleared have grown into the tallest trees in town. Taking one down between a house and a highway is a sectional job from a rope or the bucket, not a hinge cut.

Working Timber Country

Alto's economy still runs partly on timber, and many properties have a stand on the back of the lot. We handle the yard side: hazard trees near structures, pine beetle kills, and clearing for a barn or a new home site.

Careful Around History

Alto is the closest town to Caddo Mounds State Historic Site and has its own long history along the Old San Antonio Road. We work cleanly in the older parts of town and leave the block as we found it, minus the tree.

Common Questions From Alto

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Alto?

Not on private property. Cherokee, Smith, Anderson and Henderson counties have no county tree rules, and none of the towns we serve publishes a tree-removal permit requirement. Jacksonville's own code only asks that nothing overhang a public street below 12 feet, and we handle that clearance as part of the job. If your tree touches a city street or alley in Alto, we will suggest a quick call to the city office first. Details are on our permits page.

How soon can you get to Alto?

For a hanging limb or a tree on a roof, call (903) 555-0147 and we will give you a same-day or next-day answer. For a routine removal, Reyna usually books the estimate within a few days and the work within a week or two, depending on the season. Spring storm season (March through May) is our busiest stretch.
